Frozen Fever Offers a Fleeting Yet Sweet Return to Arendelle
Frozen Fever is a slight diversion from the original and is endearing enough for a seven-minute visit to the relationship at the heart of Frozen. It doesn’t have the substance of a feature film, but it does give familiar comfort to those who appreciate the Anna and Elsa dynamic.
A Musical Miniature with Heart
The progress the sisters make and the musical number do an excellent job showing their growing bond and capturing the buzz of a birthday party, which makes for a feel-good 2 minute number. Beck’s score has the sisters’ birthdays in mind with a score that puts the sisters at the forefront and has fills the rest of the time with a fully realized background. The song showcases where this franchise is headed musically. The animation balances a party atmosphere, mixed with little flourishes of Elsa subtly showing her powers. It gives the requested happy whimsical feel to the party and satisfies it’s character inspired restrictions as it intentionally makes the scope smaller to fit the shorter runtime.
The Conflict of Conspicuous Consumerism
Some critics think this was a legitimate creative outlet while others think this is a clear example of a product meant to be sold. There are even more people in the middle who notice thech characters consistently care about each other, and the movie has a lot of fun with the characters, and think this is so much better than what the characters could have been merchandised as.
While it is in no way a strong argument, I am among those people. All of the characters do interact with each other, and seeing those interactions makes this product feel like something more than just another cog in the machine.
I have to say, this is a still a fun little thing to enjoy, but it is way too short, and it almost is too cute for its own good.
Who Should Engage with the Frost
This film is best for young audiences and franchise fans who like their characters in a lower-stakes fun setting. You’ll be disappointed if you’re looking for story or emotional depth. Those who enjoy the emotional and complex storytelling of the other films will be disappointed with this.
This is a snack rather than a meal of a film for fans who want more time with the royal sisters of Arendelle. Among those who expect their animation with good storytelling should probably look elsewhere.
