Apharan engages its viewers with its sharp comedy and draws them in with an intriguing crime drama that requires patience to follow. Its fast-paced plot is perfect for those looking to escape the monotony of standard police procedurals. While all the characters are morally ambiguous, this anchor to Srivastava’s character is ultimately what grounds Apharan’s plot.
A Moral Labyrinth in Uttarakhand
The friction between Rudra’s work as an inspector and his adventure in the kidnap for ransom plot drives the series. By choosing to set the show in Uttarakhand, the creators managed to build a world that defies urban crime drama conventions.
Arunoday Singh pulls off a portrayal of the protagonist’s mix of internal conflict and external absurdity like no other. The writing adds enough dark humor to allow the audience to recognize and appreciate the in-general morally reprehensible acts of the protagonists while also keeping the audience interested in their eventual end.
The Perils of a Convoluted Plot
There are problems when the show falters with tropes of twists and red herrings. The first act has potential with the protagonist’s abduction. But with piling conspiracies, the audience loses focus on character growth and creates an atmosphere of a mechanically solved mystery instead of a character-based drama.

It otherwise runs the risk of things slowing down and getting bogged down with excess verbiage.
